According to the Chinese calendar, the Chinese New Year starts on 8th
February, 2016 and will end on 27th January 2017.
Each year is associated with an animal sign in the Chinese Zodiac and
also one of the five elements Gold, Water, Wood, Fire or Earth.
Now, with only about one more day to go before Chinese New Year…
Many people cannot wait to see the end of the Goat Year.
The Chinese word for “goat” or the sound made by the goat is “meh”
which also has a meaning of “what?” .
Some superstitious people say this probably explains why there were
so many uncertainties and unexpected things in the Goat Year, which
was not a very good year. There were several sudden events which
caused many currencies to be devalued, making a lot of people much
poorer and now struggling to survive. There were also big attacks by
terrorists on the public in some countries.
The Monkey is coming!
And a lot of people will be very happy!
The Chinese New Year will be the Year of the Monkey, which is the
ninth animal in the cycle of 12 animal signs in the Chinerse Zodiac.
And it will be the year of the Fire Monkey!

In the Chinese language the word for “monkey” sounds very similar to
the word for “good”.
Many people are very happy to welcome the Chinese New Year of the
Monkey and are looking forward to a very good new year.
Some people, especially the young ones, are using their imaginations to
visualize the coming of the new year to be the coming of the legendary
Monkey King and hoping to see him use his magic powers and magical
stick to get rid of all the bad things in the world.
Chinese people and their families and friends all over the world will be
celebrating this Chinese New Year festival.
The festival is normally celebrated for 15 days with good food and also
best wishes for good health and prosperity for everyone. Some people
will celebrate for a whole month or more!
While we will be happy celebrating, we must always be alert to real
threats from terrorists who can strike any where and at any time.
All of us who love peace must stand united against terrorism and not
allow the terrorists to catch us off guard.
