We are now in the first week of the new year 2016.
Many of you would be back hard at work.
With the rising costs of living, any of you are planning to ask for a
pay rise from your employer?
Some of you will be very happy to be working in your jobs, most
probably because you have very good high pay dream jobs.
Some others may not like what they are doing or may feel they
are overworked and underpaid.
If you are in this situation, when was the last time you asked for
a raise in your salary?
Did you get want you wanted?
If you did, congratulations ! You are one of the very fortunate few.
Many would not have obtained even close to what they desired.
With the costs of living going up, some of you may want to see
your employer again and request for your salary to be increased.
Are you feeling brave enough to do this?
Do you feel desperate enough? Just joking.

And how to answer questions which are expected to be asked?
If you are thinking of asking for a raise again, be well prepared to
present your case…
Whatever you do, do not get caught in the following scenario,… or
you will be walking out sheepishly, convinced that you certainly do
not deserve a pay rise!… and that you owe your employer a lot!…
and that you will need to repay your employer by working much
harder in your job!

memory of it and have a good laugh?
Here goes…
After several years of selfless service, an employee realized that
were no promotion, no salary increment, no commendation…
So the employee decided to walk up to the HR Manager to ask for
a raise, prepared with the reasons which were about the dedication
to work, the hard work, all the personal sacrifices and hours put in,
the tough workloads, the various personal accomplishments,…
Here’s the conversation that took place…
Where M is the manager and E is the employee.
M: How many days are there in a year?
E: 365 days and sometimes 366.
M: Do you come to work on weekends?
E: No Sir.
M: How many days are there in a year that are weekends?
E: 52 Saturdays and 52 Sundays equals to 104 days.
M: Thanks for that. If you remove 104 days from 366 days, how many days
do you now have?
E: 262 days
M: How many hours make up a day?
E: 24 Hours.
M: How long do you work in a day?
E: 10am to 6pm (i.e 8 hours a day.)
M: So, what fraction of the day do you work in hours?
E: 8/24 i.e 1/3 (one third).
M: This is nice of you! what is 1/3rd of 262 days?
E: 87 (1/3 x 262 = 87days)
M: The company gives you 2 weeks sick leave, 15 days casual leave, 5 days
optional leave, 30 days earned leave every year. Now remove that 64 days
from the 87 days left. How many days do you have remaining?
E: 23 days.
M: Do you work on festivals ? (21 days)
E: No Sir!
M: Do you come to work on Independence Day?
E: No Sir!
M: So how many days are left?
E: 1 day Sir!
M: Do you come to work on New year’s Day?
E: No Sir!
M: So how many days are left?
E: None Sir!
M: So how many days are you working? What are you claiming?
E: I have understood, Sir. I did not realize that I was stealing company
time and money all these years!!
Moral of story…Do not go to HR for help…
HR = High Risk!… of not getting what you want !
This may be an exaggeration, but how many of you think you can really
persuade your employer to give you the raise you want?
Did you notice all the ME’s above?
If you are going to see your employer and tell them about all your hard work,
your achievements, your heavy workloads…, this is the wrong approach to
ask for a raise in your pay.
