Have you ever pondered whether multitasking is good or bad
for you and whether it can help you to become more efficient
and productive to do your job and chores or if it will give you
more headaches and problems?
Do you know why some people say that it is a very bad thing
which is useless and can cause a lot of damage to the people
who are using it and at the same time there are other people
who adore it and claim that it does no harm at all and it is a
very good and beneficial habit?
What do you think are the reasons for such wide differences
in opinions in different people?
Do you multitask?
Do you do it all the time?
Do you like multitasking?
The question now should be…
Do you love multitasking?
The word “like” is now out of fashion and outdated!
You should know this if you are aware of the latest changes in
Facebook, unless you have been sleeping without your phone
in some cave!
Can you do without multitasking?
According to the dictionaries, multitasking is defined as the
ability of a person to do more than one thing at one time or
the handling of more than one task at the same time by any
single person.
Don’t you agree that we are all certainly capable of doing at
least two things at a time? And that is doing more than one
thing at one time? And that is multitasking?
So what do you think is wrong with all those people who are
against multitasking?
This really makes you wonder, doesn’t it?
If you do not agree with multitasking, are you saying that
humans cannot do more than one thing at a time?
If you are reading this now, you are using your computer
or mobile phone, using your eyes to see the words, using
your brain to think, using your fingers to scroll and using
your nose and mouth to breathe, all at the same time!
Isn’t that doing more than one thing at one time?
Do you not agree we are multitasking all the time, whether
we know it or not?
So what is so bad about multitasking that some people just
do not like to do it?
Or is there a deeper meaning of multitasking which makes
some people dislike it?
Or perhaps the reason is that these people see multitasking
as something which is illustrated in the photo below?

Now we can understand why some people say that they do
not like multitasking.
After all, not many people will like to look something which
resembles a human octopus with six arms and two legs!
Not a cool look!
It is also very difficult to focus on one task and do it well if
you are trying to do so many tasks all at the same time!
Perhaps the definition of multitasking should be revised now
to make it clear what multitasking is really about?
If some of you are quickly jumping to the conclusion that this
thing called multitasking is bad and should be avoided like the
plague…, do you know that multitasking can also be good and
it can really help us a lot in our daily lives?
Whether a person finds that multitasking is good or bad really
depends on the tasks, don’t you agree?
Those people who advise against multitasking are saying it is
not an effective way to work because it is not possible to do
a good job when you are also trying to handle many tasks at
the same time. They say that you will lose your focus on the
main task and can really cause things to be messed up.
They say that switching your attention constantly from several
different tasks is not an efficient way to get things done.
And they are not wrong.
However, in the world nowadays, we all have so many things
that we want to do or have to do, that it is almost impossible
to do without multitasking, whether we work in a regular job
in an office or other places, run our own businesses or do the
housework and domestic chores.
We have become so used to this way of living that many of us
have become experts at some forms of multitasking, don’t you
agree?
Our brains are very powerful and it is really astounding what
they can do if we know how to make good use of them.
But some people say that multitasking can cause damage to our
brains? Do you agree with this?
Do you agree that multitasking is something that we cannot do
without in our lives now?
Do you agree that we never have enough time to do many of
the things that we want to do?
Time is a very precious commodity which some people say is
even more important than money because time lost cannot be
recovered or replenished.
If you are given the choice to pick only one, time or money,
which do you want more of…, bearing in mind that you can
only choose to have more of one and not both at the same
time?
Do you think that just having more time or more money will
improve your life?
Coming back to multitasking, here is a gentle reminder that
some forms of multitasking are really bad!
Good examples are texting when you are driving or walking!
Another example is taking selfies in dangerous places where
you are trying to handle the task of handling your phone or
camera and trying to keep your balance or stay away from
unknown and expected dangers at the same time!
Do not do this because it can cause you to be hurt very badly
or even to lose your life!
Always concentrate on staying safe!
If you can think of other situations where multitasking is bad,
you can write and share your comments in the comment box
below.
As you can see from the above descriptions, multitasking is
not always good or always bad.
And it looks like we cannot avoid multitasking, whether we
like to do it or not.
We should do it when it can help us to accomplish our tasks
more speedily.
We should not depend mainly on multitasking to complete all
our work.
And we should be very careful where and how we multitask
and we should not overuse multitasking.
Are you always running short of time and never have enough
time even to sort out your snail mail letters or other important
papers or documents?
Are you so busy everyday because you meet many people or
go to many places?
Do you just put the business cards, documents, bank deposits
receipts, statements, and also the letters you receive into your
bag everyday together with flyers, newspapers and other stuff
and come home too tired to sort through all of them?
Then after a few days or a week, you find a lot of paper in your
bulging bag?
And you suddenly remember you have missed some important
payments because you have not read all your letters?
And you must sort out all the mess in your bag before you get
hit with more problems?
But you just cannot find the time to do so?
Do you put off taking any action because you think that it is
impossible for you to find the time to do anything about this
and fix the problems?
Procrastination is the thief of time!
And since time is money, you will also lose money if you like
to procrastinate and delay taking action to solve problems!
If you do not bother to do anything about your problems, you
will also lose time and money!
Complacency is also thief of your time and money!
And since time is money, you will also lose money if you like
to procrastinate and delay taking action to solve problems!
If you do not bother to do anything about your problems, you
will also lose time and money!
Complacency is also thief of your time and money!
Your problems will not go away and will get worse if you do
not act to get rid of the problems!
Here is a simple and very effective multitasking tip which you
can use to solve the problem to prevent it from troubling you
ever again.
This is no big secret.
However, many people do not know this because they are too
busy complaining that they do not have enough time!
Just complaining and moaning is a complete waste of time and
will not bring any relief!
What if there is a way for these people to get the “extra time”
which is so desperately needed to work on the problems and
eliminate them ?
If you are one of these types of people, the good thing is you
can legally steal this in broad daylight, in front of many other
people and you will not be arrested!
You will be able to do this because you are just stealing back
the time that was lost through your own fault and which was
stolen from you!
You cannot be arrested in this particular case only!
Do not try to steal any other thing that had been stolen from
you because that is still a crime!
Are you already using this simple trick?
If not and if you need help to be more organised, here goes…
Have you experienced many things that go wrong when you
are using the computer, just when you do not expect them?
Some of these things are very frustrating!
Things like sluggish response and very slow loading of pages
even on a fast internet connection…, frozen screens, frozen
cursor which makes it very difficult to type and makes you
really want to curse and turns you into a cursor!
Or things like some error messages which say something like
…page not responsive, do you want to wait or kill it?…, that can
make you really want to kill something or someone!
Many people will simply stare at the computer screen or will
click the mouse and press many keys many times!
But that will not help at all to make the problems go away!
Staring blankly at the computer when it “freezes” will not be
helpful to make it “thaw” and work again, because you are
not Superman!
And you do not have x-ray eyes which can heat things up!
Some people get so irritated that they have a very hard time
to really restrain themselves from bashing up the computer
or throwing it on the floor or out the window!
Some actually do something like that!
And they end up regretting badly when they finally come back
to their senses and realise that they have to spend money and
time to get their computers replaced!
This clearly shows that losing your temper does not pay and
will cost you dearly!
Instead of losing your cool and doing all that, which will in no
way help to resolve the problems, why not use the time which
will be wasted on doing something like sorting out the stuff or
papers in your bag?
All you have to do is… each time the computer freezes, give
it time to recover provided it is still working to recover, and
instead of staring at it, use the few seconds or minutes to do
the sorting of your bag’s contents.
Just do a little bit at a time. Sort all your stuff into small piles
when the computer is taking its own sweet time to recover…
go back to do your work on the computer when it is working
well again and continue to go and do more sorting when the
computer gives problems again… and needs time to recover
again… and just repeat this simple process.
You will be amazed how fast you can get all your stuff sorted
and organised again!
And you will be very pleased that you did not lose your cool
which can really spoil your day!
This works very well when you want to sort piles of paper or
other stuff, a task which does not require you to use a lot of
your concentration on it.
If you do not have anything to sort, you can still make use of
the “stolen” valuable time to read some letters or some notes.
Or watch some news on the television to know the main and
important things which are happening in the world.
Some people say that it is a waste of time to watch television.
But if you are not aware of the current news, you will not be
able to know the major events which can greatly affect your
life. You will not get to know it if there is some actual news
that the world is going to end soon!
And you will still be wasting your time doing the unnecessary
things!
The main lesson here is…
Do not waste your precious time!.
You should quickly decide on what you want to do and should
not hesitate to take action to get what you desire.
“Don’t wait. The time will never be just right.”
Every second or minute saved can help a lot in completing the
small tasks which you think you will never find the time to do!
Do you agree that this form of multitasking can be very useful
to help you to do the things which you feel that you will never
have the time to do?
Just do not try to multitask by reading a big book or doing some
dangerous work that needs you to focus a lot on it and exercise
extreme caution!
Multitasking is not always bad or always good,
It all depends on how you use it.
Enjoy your multitasking if it can help you to complete some of
your tasks more rapidly, without giving you more problems!
