Have you wondered why some people are lucky to have the
dream jobs that they enjoy doing and they also get paid very
well with many fringe benefits?
While many other people do not like the work that they are
in and they say that they are stuck in dead end jobs?
Is it all due to luck and fate?
Many very successful people got to where they are today
because they “created their own luck” and “changed their
fate”, by working hard to move up through the ranks and
going after what they really wanted to do in their lives.
Bill Gates was a college dropout but that did not stop him
from achieving great success.
One of his famous quotes is …
“Don’t compare yourself with anyone in this world…if you
do so, you are insulting yourself.”
Do you agree with this?
Are you doing your best to improve your life?
Have you ever pondered what actually is this thing which is
composed of only three letters and is spelled “JOB” and why
many people are looking for it?
A simple, common definition for “JOB” is it is the regular
work that a person does to earn money.
In other words, “JOB” is work which people do to exchange
the time they spend to work, for money to be paid to them,
if they can accomplish the tasks and goals that have been
assigned to them.
Time or money? If you can choose only one, which do you
want more of?
Different people will have different answers and different
reasons for their answers.
Do you agree that the majority of people in the world would
have chosen to have more money since it would have been
more important than time was to them? And that they would
have accepted offers for them to spend their time to do work
to get paid with money?
Do you agree that nowadays, in modern times, many people
will still prefer to make the same choice of wanting to have
more money instead of more time?
This is probably how the concept of “work” started.
Do you know the origin of the word “work”?
Can you guess what is the origin of the word “work” related
to, according to some people?
Go on… Try to guess… Have some fun! Think of some very
creative and funny answers!
The answer will only be revealed later in this article. It will
surprise or shock many of you!
Do you know that the origin of the word “JOB “is not very
clear and is uncertain?
It looks like no one knows, for sure, who first “invented” or
created the word “JOB”!
Isn’t it strange that no one knows the real origin of the word
“JOB” or exactly how the word came about?
Perhaps, the word was created such a long time ago, when
there were no history books to record the event?
This shows that History is important!
We should not forget to study and read History or Herstory!
Some people say that the word “JOB” originated from the
ancient phrase “jobbe of work” or “piece of work”
That is probably how the word “JOB” was born.
Are you happy with your job ?
Some people are very fortunate to have dream jobs because
they can really enjoy doing their work and be well rewarded
with good pay and other benefits.
Other people who are the majority of the population are not
so fortunate. They are unhappy with the work they are now
submerged in and that is why they are always searching for
better jobs.
Are you always looking for a better job?
Do you know what you really want in a better job that will
make you happy??
What is your dream job?
What are you looking for to achieve success in life?
What are your goals and action plans to achieve your goals
and make your dreams come true?
Are you using the right brain or the wrong brain?
These are very important questions that you will have to ask
yourself and answer honestly or you will find yourself to be
searching forever for something unknown! You must know
what you want or you will not be able to recognise it even if
you have found it!
A lot of people failed to achieve success in life because they
are “human lobsters”. Do not be one or you will be eaten by
the other people!
Different people have their own versions of what the word
“JOB” means to them.
Many people say “JOB” is an acronym or abbreviation for
“just over broke”, which sounds as if it is not a good thing
or even a terrible one.
Actually, do you know, that if you think a bit more deeply on
this, “just over broke” is really not that bad?
At least, this means that you are not broke and are better off
than broke, implying that you have enough money to survive.
That is not a bad thing, right?
This may not be your ideal situation but don’t you agree it is
not a too bad position to be in and is not as horrible as a lot
of people think?
Do you agree with this “definition” or do you have your own
ideas on what the word JOB means to you?
Do you know that there are several other “versions” of what
the word “JOB” means to other people?
Some people say that “JOB” stands for “just out of bondage”!
This term probably originated from the time when slaves were
freed and should not be applicable now, unless if you have a
“slave driver” boss! Do you agree?
There are other “versions” … “jump on board”, “just on board”,
“journey of business” and “just ordinary businesss” which are
quite self explanatory…
Here are more “versions” which you may not have heard of…
“journey of the broke”, “jump out of bed”, “junk on the bunk”
and “”jail of boss”! These are probably created by the people
who are unhappy with their work and are stuck in their jobs
and allowed their imaginations to run wild!
Do you remember that it was mentioned earlier that the word
“JOB” probably originated from “piece of work” This “POW”
can also stand for “prisoner of war”! Did you notice that?
Some people really see “JOB” as jail or prison!
And do you know what is the origin of the word “work”?
It is related to “torture”!
Is this all a coincidence?
Is this the reason why many people are unhappy and suffering
in their work?
Now, before we make all kinds of assumptions, believe in too
many superstitions and jump to wrong conclusions, we should
sit back, be calm and look rationally at the big picture.
It is true that many people are not happy about their jobs and
they are complaining very often about their bosses, colleagues,
the work environment, their working hours, their pay, the bad
economy, government policies, office politics and other things
under the sun…
But does this mean that “JOB” is a bad thing or as horrible as
these people perceive it to be?
Have you heard of the “just obey boss” “version” of what the
word “JOB” stands for for some people?
Do you know that “JOB” can also stand for “just one boss”?
Is this the first time you see this “meaning”?
The people who are working in their dream jobs will be able
to relate to this. They only have to please their one boss and
they will be the “boss’s pet” and be able to enjoy very good
working conditions and get very high pay, perks or special
privileges and other great benefits.
As you can see, “JOB” is a very good thing for some people
who enjoy doing their work.
Even for the other people who are not so fortunate to be in
their dream jobs, a job is still not a bad thing.
If you have a job, you will be paid every fortnight or every
month and also enjoy other benefits such as insurance and
healthcare. You will also be able to learn many new things
which can help you to advance in your career and in your
life. Don’t you agree this is not bad?
There will , of course, be many challenges and obstacles to
be overcome but many people have been able to achieve
success in their jobs.
Do you agree that whether people will be happy in their jobs
or not, really will depend mainly on their own expectations,
perceptions, attitudes and what they actually plan to do to
improve themselves?
Many people, especially those who have just found their first
job, often have very big expectations that they will be highly
respected, be very well paid and be very happy if they fulfill
the job requirements of the boss.
These people think they will only have to make their one boss
happy and they will be very well paid.
Their dreams are shattered very soon when they find out that
there is not only just one boss that they have to make happy,
especially in very big organisations and companies. They will
have to work with many different people who have all types
of strange and often unpleasant personalities. All these people
can make life very difficult for the new employees since they
can be very “bossy”!
Some of these new workers will become very disappointed or
even depressed and if they are “human lobsters” , they will be
eaten by the others!
In summary, this thing called “JOB” is not really a bad thing or
as evil as some people say it is.
Whether you like your job or not mainly depends on your own
expectations, perceptions, attitudes and actions.
Do you agree with this or do you have other ideas?
